Mounting & Attachment Options Guide

Choosing the right document holder is only half the decision. The mounting and attachment method determines how securely the holder stays in place, how easily it can be moved, and how reliably it supports your workflow. This guide explains the most common mounting options available across our attachment options and when each one makes sense.

Quick Decision: What Are You Attaching To?

  • Metal surfaces (racks, cabinets, equipment): Magnetic backing or hang straps
  • Plastic bins, cardboard cartons, wood: Peel-and-stick adhesive backing or hang straps
  • Wire shelving, carts, hooks: Reinforced eyelets, hanging straps, or hook systems
  • Walls, doors, panels: Adhesive, magnetic (if steel), or hook & loop options
  • Temporary or frequently moved locations: Magnetic or strap-style attachment

Eyelets (Grommets) and Hook Mounting

Eyelets and reinforced hanging holes are used when the holder needs to hang from hooks, pegs, carts, racks, or wire shelving. They are common on job ticket holders positioned near work-in-process stations.

  • Best for: Hooks, nails, pegs, carts, racks, wire shelving
  • Strength advantage: Eyelets distribute load and reduce tearing at the hang point

Hanging Straps (Loop Straps / Buckle Straps)

Hanging straps allow holders to attach to pipes, rails, handles, forklift cages, pallet racks, and equipment where a hook is not available. Straps are ideal when you need a secure attachment that can be repositioned without tools.

  • Best for: Round rails, square tubing, pallet racks, equipment handles
  • Workflow advantage: Secure hold without adhesives
  • Often used with: Sewn or heat-welded holders depending on environment

Magnetic Backing

Magnetic holders mount quickly to steel surfaces and can be repositioned without residue. This is one of the most flexible options for fast-changing visual workflows.

  • Best for: Steel shelving, toolboxes, cabinets, machine housings, metal doors
  • Workflow advantage: Fast repositioning for Lean / 5S systems

Adhesive Backing (Peel-and-Stick)

Adhesive-backed sleeves attach to non-metal surfaces such as plastic bins, cardboard cartons, wood panels, and painted walls. Adhesive is best when the holder is intended to remain in a fixed location.

  • Best for: Plastic totes, bins, cardboard, wood, painted panels
  • Workflow advantage: Permanent placement for consistent labeling and document control
  • Learn more: Peel-and-stick adhesive options

Hook & Loop (Velcro-Style) Attachment

Hook & loop attachment is useful when holders need to be removed and reattached repeatedly, especially on fabric surfaces, temporary panels, or non-metal areas where magnets will not work.

  • Best for: Fabric curtains, partitions, temporary boards
  • Workflow advantage: Controlled removal and repositioning
  • Often combined with: Sewn or heat-welded holders depending on environment

Choosing the Best Option (Simple Rules)

  • If you need fast repositioning, choose magnetic or strap mounting.
  • If you need fixed placement, choose peel-and-stick adhesive.
  • If you use hooks, pegs, or wire shelving, choose eyelets or hook-compatible options.
  • If your environment is dusty or wet, consider welded construction plus the appropriate mounting method.

Need a Custom Mounting Configuration?

Many mounting methods listed under our full Attachment Options section can be combined (example: waterproof welded pocket + eyelet hang point, or stitched holder + magnetic backing). If your racking system, bins, or equipment require a specific attachment style, we can configure it.
